Jonathan McKinney spent years with the idea for Emily The Master Enchantress floating around in his head, but had struggled to actually apply them to a story. When he met his writing partner J.J. Barnes he finally was able to properly create his first novel.
Growing up, Jonathan loved reading books by writers such as George Orwell, Terry Pratchett and Diana Gabaldon, but also was a true devotee of television shows such as Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Red Dwarf and Alias, and the fast paced, high energy world of comic books. He connected most deeply to fantasy and adventure with strong female leads.
Adventure and action stories are saturated by male characters driving the story, so for Jonathan it was always important to put female characters at the healm of his creations, thus the Schildmaids were born.
Jonathan is currently working on the next book in The Schildmaids Saga, as well as short stories that compliment the universe.
Known primarily for writing teen fiction in The Lilly Prospero Series, it would seem that contributing an erotic scene to an adult series is out of character. However, in the dark depths of her computer, never to see the light of day, is an entire erotic novel she wrote many years ago which, whilst never published, was read by many for free and very well received.
Having known and loved The Schildmaids from the time Jonathan first discussed them, contributing to the saga was a real privilege, but also a lot of pressure. A big fan of Jonathan McKinney’s writing, she was keen to ensure her own standard lived up to his work.
